Who We Are
The Coordinate Metrology Society Foundation (CMSF) was established by the Board of Directors of the Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) as its charitable arm — a bold step forward in the Society’s enduring commitment to advancing the science and practice of precision measurement.
As an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the CMSF raises and distributes funds to support education, research, and charitable activities for eligible individuals, academic institutions, and organizations connected to the CMS community. The Foundation builds on CMS’s world-class conference, industry-leading certification program, and expansive 3DMU library — adding a new dimension of direct investment in the people and ideas that will shape the future of coordinate metrology.
“The CMSF is a big step in adding more value for CMS members as well as our world-class conference, certification program, and 3DMU library. CMSF has assembled an outstanding group of individuals to launch this tremendous benefit for our members.”
— Joe Sabol, Chairman, CMS Board of Directors
Our Mission
The CMSF exists to ensure that the next generation of precision measurement professionals has the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive. We are driven by four core commitments:
- Provide scholarships and grants to students, educators, and professionals.
- Support education in the field of coordinate metrology and related disciplines.
- Fund research that advances the science and application of precision measurement.
- Foster community engagement through charitable activities and outreach.

A Value Point for Every CMS Member
The CMSF is more than a charitable arm — it is a direct investment in the CMS community itself. For every member who attends the annual conference, pursues a CMS certification, or draws on the 3DMU technical library, the CMSF works to ensure there is a next generation ready to do the same.
How the CMSF Strengthens Your CMS Membership
A stronger pipeline: CMSF scholarships bring new talent into the field — expanding the community of metrologists who will attend the CMSC, seek certifications, and contribute to the profession.
A more vibrant conference: Every new professional the CMSF supports is a potential future exhibitor, presenter, or attendee at the annual Coordinate Metrology Society Conference.
A growing knowledge base: Research funded by the CMSF contributes to the body of knowledge that makes CMS publications and technical resources more valuable for all members.
A global community: With CMS members and exhibitors from around the world, the CMSF’s international scope ensures that the benefits of membership reach across borders.
